In this show we talk about.. well.. a bunch of stuff, Flash Builder 4, ColdFusio Builder, JQuery 1.4, FW/1 Framework. This show as all over the map so I seriously have nothing of value to put in the description. We also announce the winner of our contest and what the actual prize is.

Jan 18, 2010 at 9:31 PM Dave - You mentioned that you are going back to focus on your time at work on architecture. Can you take some time to explain the approach you take when architecting a system? What questions do you ask yourself before beginning. Also I find it hard to believe that you are still so resistant to frameworks (take your pick) when architecting systems. Granted you say that you work on a very old application that is too big to implement a framework but you've been there 9 years and frameworks have certainly been around for more than 9 years so why didn't you use this when creating the system. The best software applications written today use frameworks. I don't know but sometimes it feels like you don't have a CS degree and haven't worked much with OOP so I'm interested in your approach to architecting out enterprise wide solutions. Perhaps we as an audience can learn something from your approach.
Mike - Congrats on kickin' the Programmer's Diet (Hot Pockets and Red Bull)!! That's a lot of weight you've lost. The hard part is sustainability.
Lastly, since Dave mentioned that he has been working with ORM a lot I've been running into this issue lately when trying to do an simple entitySave on a table with a primary key defined and no relationships.
"ids for this class must be manually assigned before calling save()"
Why would I have to set the id on an identity column that is set up as a primary key? Doesn't make sense to me.
I've even tried recreating the CFC multiple times in case of caching issues. Any idea?
Jan 19, 2010 at 9:13 PM Dave - Any ideas on the ORM error?
Jan 20, 2010 at 9:16 PM Dave - Still nothing?

I have not replied yet because I wanted to listen to to the show again first. I was not having issues with saving. I was having issues figuring out doing wildcarding. I have not done any work yet with saving.

Jan 21, 2010 at 11:31 PM Please let me know once you start working with this. It is hard to believe that you've been working with ORM but you've never used the EntitySave.
Jan 22, 2010 at 1:45 PM Where's this week's show? 3 weeks in and you are already slacking?
